Lulu Schelling Services Held

Mrs. Lulu S. Schelling was born April 2, 1908, in rural Grundy County the daughter of John and Sylvia (Anderson) Barfels. She passed away early Saturday morning, May 9, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, having attained the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 7 days.

Mrs. Schelling grew up in the Reinbeck area and graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1926. She was united in marriage to Royal G. (Buster) Schelling on April 6, 1927, in Waterloo. Lulu and Buster farmed in the Reinbeck area. In 1942, they moved to their farm north of Reinbeck.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck and also a long time member of Merrymakers and Ladies Aide.

Mrs. Schelling was preceded in death by her husband, Royal on February 15, 1981; 1 infant daughter, Lavon on September 23, 1928; her parents; and one brother, Floyd J. Barfels.

Survivors include one son, Roger of Reinbeck; one daughter, Mrs. Dave (Kaye) Abels of Grundy Center; 3 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; 4 great-grandsons; and her companion, V. A. Paige of rural Dike.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12 at the United church of Christ in Reinbeck at 11 a.m. with Rev. Allan J. Mittler officiating. Pallbearers were Beryl Manlick, Kenneth Barfels, Harold Storjohann, Dale Storjohann, James Lenius, and Dean Snow. Burial was in the Reinbeck Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
