Peter Peterson Services Held
Peter C. Peterson, 47, the former owner of "Mr. Pete's" clothing store, died Friday morning, April 3, in the Hospice Room at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 6 at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Don Laue, minister, officiated. Burial was in the Christian Reformed Cemetery at Ackley.
Peter Cecil Peterson was born in Auckland, New Zealand, the son of Cecil and Gwendoline McGlone Peterson. He graduated from Estherville High School in 1964, and on April 26, 1969, he and Thelma Jean Abbas were married at Ackley. They moved to Charles City in 1977 where they owned and operated "Mr. Pete's" clothing store until 1988. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the church choir, the Charles City Singers, was past president of the Charles City Area Development Corp., the Charles City Area United Way, the Charles City Rotary Club, and was a recipient of the Rotary Community Service award in 1982, and the Jaycee Outstanding Young Businessman Award in 1982.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Jean of Charles City; a daughter, Jennifer at the U. of I. in Iowa City; a son, Scott in the eighth grade at C.C. Comm. Junior High; his mother, Gwendoline Peterson of Estherville; a twin brother, Michael Carl Peterson of Redwood City, CA; and a sister, Susan (Mrs. Robert) Zufall of Maple Grove, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City was in charge of the arrangements.
