Floyd V. Lynch, 84, of Marshalltown, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center due to injuries sustained from a fall New Year's eve.

Floyd was born June 14, 1928 to Harry and Ella (Wiener) Lynch. He was raised on the family farm south of Grundy Center. He graduated in 1946 from the Grundy Center High School where he enjoyed the camera club and lettered in track. In 1951, Floyd was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea as a combat engineer. That year he also met Nathalie Shumway of Cedar Falls. They dated primarily by letters and united in marriage November 25, 1953 shortly after his army discharge. He farmed south of Grundy Center and worked at Franzenburg Locker in Conrad before moving to Conrad in 1963. Floyd worked with Bud Shaw as a carpenter and also built his new home at this time. In 1966, Floyd joined Fisher Governor in Marshalltown. Floyd was a mechanist, inspector, and foreman until retiring in 1991. Upon retiring, Floyd and Nathalie moved to an acreage west of Albion before returning to Marshalltown in 2008.

Floyd was a member of The Lions Club and focused on the Veterans Administration Stamp Outreach Program. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Floyd served as youth director, treasurer, Deacon, Elder, and Trustee. He enjoyed his involvement with Promise Keepers and was able to attend the national convention with his sons.

Floyd's love for nature, animals, traveling, and family made him an excellent Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and helped numerous scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, including his son Kurt. His schoolmates nicknamed him Toyboy and the name stuck due to his constant tinkering with toys, mechanical objects, and projects he did around the house.

Floyd will be missed by his wife of 59 years Nathalie, children; Diane (Dennis) McLeland of Liscomb, Mark (Cindy) Lynch of Grundy Center, Kurt Lynch of Marshalltown, Karen (Steve) Holl of Conrad, Paul (Martha) Lynch of Atlanta, GA, twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a sister Marian McCubbin of Grundy Center, and a brother Harry Lee Lynch of Garwin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marjorie Stahl, and a brother, Ray Lynch.

Memorial services will be 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Marshalltown. Private graveside services will be held prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or the Boy Scouts. The Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements.
