Carol I. Stevens, 88, of Conrad, IA, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Conrad United Methodist Church with Reverend Gene Kubli officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services Friday at the church; a luncheon will follow the service. Private family interment will be at the Alice Cemetery. The Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with these arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Conrad United Methodist Church or the family.
Carol Irene was born September 15, 1926 to Floyd and Jessie (Sherbon) Stevens in rural Conrad, IA. She attended county school and then Conrad High School. Carol lived in Conrad her entire life and worked for several families in town locally as a housekeeper. Carol was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church and the Conrad American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed attending BCLUW games, especially softball and basketball, was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed following the activities of many area youth. Family gatherings where she could visit with nieces and nephews were always a highlight for Carol.
Carol is survived by a brother, Leon (Connie) Stevens of Thousand Oaks, CA, 11 nieces and nephews: Brad (Jackie) Stevens of Conrad, Lori Veld (Jim Otten) of Marshalltown, Susan Wood of Marshalltown, Mike Watson, Lynn Watson and Bill Watson all of Los Angeles, CA, Bob (Anita) Stevens of Moor Park, CA, Michelle Stevens of Thousand Oaks, CA, Mark (Jimmie) Stevens of Chandler, AZ, Dennis Stevens of Gilbert, AZ and Dawn Stevens of Sun Tan Valley, AZ, as well as 10 grand nieces and nephews and 3 great grand nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Doris Watson, and three brothers, Raymond, Harold and Kenneth Stevens.
Carol’s family would like to thank the staff at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook and Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad for the wonderful care she was given over the past several years.
