LaVera Bertha Behrns, 98 of Traer, Iowa formerly of Buckingham, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday August 6, 2015 at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Burial will be held at the Reinbeck Cemetery.

LaVera was born on December 18, 1916 in rural Reinbeck, to John and Bertha (Sell) Petersen. She attended country school in rural Reinbeck. She was united in marriage to Virgil W. Behrns on June 15, 1938 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they welcomed three children into their family. Virgil and LaVera farmed near Buckingham until Virgil's death in 1978. She then moved to Traer and continued to work at the Buckingham Co-Op for many years.

LaVera was a life-long member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. She was an avid card player, enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting and loved baking, especially raisin pies. She loved music, especially big band music and polkas and enjoyed many happy hours dancing. After the death of her husband, LaVera often traveled on bus tours with family and friends. She loved playing Bingo and traveling to the Casinos. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

LaVera is survived by her son, John (Sue) Behrns of Delhi, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-law Carole Behrns of Elk River, Minnesota and brother-in-law Jim Rego of Hayward, California and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Virgil; son Stanley Behrns; daughter Darlys Gula; son-in-law Ronald Gula; 6 sisters; 5 brothers-in-law; a brother and 2 sisters-in-law.
