Rites Held For M. Janie Krier
M. Janie Krier was born January 8, 1929 in Hemmingway, SC the daughter of Dudley J. and Sarah Bullard Barnhill. She passed away on Saturday, February 15 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure.
Janie graduated from Pleasant Hill High School, Hemmingway, SC, in 1945. She was united in marriage to Raphael H. (Bud) Krier on September 22, 1945, in Georgetown, SC. After her husband was discharged from the Air Force, they returned to Larchwood, Iowa, his hometown, later moving to Des Moines. They moved to Beaman in 1969, where she lived until the last couple of years. She was a waitress at That Place in Conrad some 15 years ago. She raised four granddaughters in her home, Jana Sleeth of Marshalltown, Dena Sleeth of Cedar Rapids, Lana Crouse and Shawna Sleeth of Des Moines.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; a daughter, Debra "Pat" Sleeth Prosser; her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; and one granddaughter.
She is survived by four daughters, Peggy Lowe of Carlisle, Phyliss Wadle, Pam Krier, and Carla Brimson all of Marshalltown; six sons, Richard Krier, Dudley Krier, and Kevin Krier all of Marshalltown, Keith Krier and Kyle Krier of Prairie City, and Ken Krier of Cedar Falls; one sister, Elmira Pope of Georgetown, SC; one brother, D.J. Barnhill of Hemmingway, SC; and 21 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Conrad United Methodist Church with Rev. David Crow officiating. Casketbearers were Andrew, Nathan, and Paul Krier, Stephen and David Wadle, Tracy and Shawn Troutner, Anthony Mason, Brian Brimson and Brandon Moore. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Beaman.
The Johnston Funeral in Conrad was in charge of the arrangements.
