Services Held For Harold A. Andersen
Harold A. Andersen, 94, of Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, formerly of Dike, died Wednesday, December 18th, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.
He was born near Hudson, April 8, 1897. His parents were Maria Bruhn and N. Laurits Andersen. Harold attended a one room grade school in Grundy County until 8th grade and later completed almost two years of agricultural classes at Iowa State. He was married to Esther Thuesen on February 24, 1932, at Fredsville Lutheran Church. Harold and Esther farmed in the Cedar Falls and Fredsville area until 1963 and lived their retirement years in Dike. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Dike American Legion. He served on the Grundy County School Board, the Dike elevator board, was active in Farm Bureau and in many other community affairs. Harold was a lifelong member of Fredsville Lutheran Church and served on the Lutheran Home Board of Directors from 1967 until 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Esther, three sons and daughters-in-law, and one daughter and son-in-law, Dennis and Sandra of Minnetonka, Minnesota; Arlan and Carol of rural Cedar Falls; Edwin and Janice of Richfield, Minnesota; and Marilyn and William Gift of Des Moines; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, two sisters and one brother: Helene Johnson of rural Cedar Falls; Amanda Strandskov of Solvang, California, and Edward of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold of Denver, Colorado, and Thorvald (Tobe) of Cedar Falls.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 23, at Fredsville Lutheran Church with burial in the Fredsville cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
