Anna Cech Services Held

Anne Cech was born February 29, 1900 in Traer, the daughter of Frank and Anna Seda Slatinka. She passed away Monday, December 23 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, having attained the age of 91 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

Anna grew up and was educated in the Traer area. On September 8, 1919 she united in marriage to James Cech in Cedar Rapids. Anna and James made their home in Clutier, where they owned and operated a general store. In 1931, they moved to Grundy Center and opened Cech's Grocery Store. In the mid-1950's, the store changed location and name to Jim's Supermarket until the family business was sold in April of 1979.

Anna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, the Rebekah Lodge, and the Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Frank Slatinka; and two sisters, Carrie Babinate, and Mary Vojetch.

Survivors include one daughter, Martha (Mrs. Ed) Freese of Grundy Center; one son, James Cech of Winter Park, FL; one foster son, Paul Babinate of Sioux City; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Vanicek of Traer.

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 27 at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor D. Ward Young officiating. Pallbearers were Arlen Kruger, Jerry Cech, Dean Meyer, Randy Thoren, Darin Utterback, and Brent Thoren. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
