Services Held For R. Neessen

Richard Neessen, 74, of Ackley, passed away on Friday, May 31, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Services were held on Tuesday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m., at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland, with the Rev. Floyd DeBoer, and Rev. John Kroon officiating.

Casket bearers were Marvin Eilderts, Darrell Johnson, LuVerne Skip Johnson, Lawrence VanHauen, Theodore Jungling, and Don Heikens.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Richard, the son of Walter A. and Tischa Heikens Neessen, was born on July 13, 1916, in Colfax Township. He attended rural school in Colfax Township.

On April 12, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Johnson at the Holland Christian Reformed Church parsonage in Holland. The couple farmed the Wellsburg area until 1972. They moved from the farm to Holland in 1974. In 1989 they moved to Ackley. In April of this year the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Richard was a long time member of the Christian Reformed Church of Holland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Anton and Arthur; one sister, Hattie Neessen; and one son-in-law, Raymond VanHauen.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three sons, LuRay of Wellsburg, James of Grundy Center, and Michael of Bradford; four daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Judy) VanHauen of Grundy Center, Mrs. Steve (Ramona) Starn of Gladbrook, Debra Neessen of Connell, and Mrs. Alan (Sharon) Oelmann of Austinville; 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild and one step-grandchild.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
