Mrs. P. W. Bemis, Old Morrison Resident, Dead

Mrs. P. W. Bemis died at her home in Morrison at 7:30 Sunday night. She was in her 87th year. Her health had been failing for the past year. A week before her death she was taken to her bed with an attack of the flu which she was unable in her weakened condition to overcome.

Funeral services were held at Morrison Wednesday afternoon. They were conducted by Rev. Whitmore, pastor of the Morrison church.

Was Twice Married
Mrs. Bemis was twice married. She was a native of Norway, where she was born September 30, 1850. She came to this country with her parents when she was three years old. Thirty-five years ago she and her family came to Morrison, where she resided continually.

The first husband was Milton Beckwith, who died in 1906. There were two sons from this marriage, Ed and Ben Beckwith. The latter has been in California for some time but returned home before his mother's death.

Mrs. Bemis was married a second time to P. W. Bemis at Morrison 17 years ago. Her second husband was for many years an important factor in the development of South Dakota and one town, Bemis, was named for him. He died a year ago last March and his body was sent to Bemis to be laid by the side of a former wife. Mrs. Bemis was buried by the side of her first husband in the Morrison cemetery.
