Mrs. Lyle Metzgar Funeral Monday

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Ferree-Abbns Funeral Home for Mrs. Lyle Metzgar, 84, who passed away Friday morning, January 16 at the Grundy County Memorial hospital in Grundy Center. She had been confined to the hospital since suffering a stroke November 26.

Rev. John L. Lewis, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiated at the service. Mrs. A. R. Trevillyan was organist, and accompanied Mrs. H. B. Schaa, who sang "I Will Pilot Thee". Mrs. Charles Rhoads, Jr., and Mrs. Marvin DeVries were flower attendants. Casket bearers were Lee Paige, Claude Lines, Fritz Beckman, Paul Slinker, Will Hartman and H. B. Schaa. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Grundy Center.

Edna Metzgar was born November 8, 1885 in Strawberry Point. Her parents were Verne Hopkins and Mabel Derby Hopkins. Edna and her parents moved from Wyoming, Ia., to Grundy Center in 1900. In 1905 she graduated from the Grundy Center high school. On October 28, 1908 she was united in marriage to Lyle Metzgar. To this union two daughters and one son were born. Mrs. Metzgar was an active member of the First Presbyterian church and the Ladies Society of the church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one sister, and one daughter in infancy.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, one daughter, Thelma, at home, one son, Laurence of Moorhead, Minnesota, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one brother, Roy S. Hopkins of Vancouver, B.C. in Canada, and many friends.
