Mrs. G. Meester, 89, Succumbs At Hospital

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertie Meester were held on Tuesday afternoon, January 13th, at the Stout Reformed Church with Rev. Paul Tanis officiating. Interment was made in the Stout cemetery.

She was hospitalized on November 29th, 1969, at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo, where she remained as a patient to the time of her death on Friday morning, January 9th having attained the age of 89 years, 10 months and 7 days.

Mrs. Gertie Meester, daughter of Henry and Trena Klaassen Meester, was born on March 2, 1880 in Colfax township, Grundy County, Iowa. She received her education in the Grundy county public school system. On March 13, 1901 she was united in marriage with Joe J. Meester at the Pleasant Valley Ref. church by Rev. Daniel Schafer. The family farmed all of their life on what is known as the Joe J. Meester home farm until retiring in 1952 to a small home on the same farm.

Mrs. Meester was baptized in infancy and received her early religious training at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church. In more recent years she was a faithful attendant at worship services and an active supporter of the Stout Reformed church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in December of 1962, her parents, three sisters, three brothers, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Surviving are two sons, Jacob C. Meester and Herman H. Meester both of Parkersburg; eight daughters, Mrs. Heye Buskohl, Grundy Center; Mrs. Ted Schnell, Dike; Mrs. Henry Wolters, Grundy Center; Mrs. Johann Luhring, Parkersburg; Mrs. Jerry Eilderts, Parkersburg; Mrs. Jacobus Hemmen, Dike; Mrs. Albert Kolder, Parkersburg; and Mrs. Clarence Claassen of Grundy Center; 42 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John G. Meester of Wellsburg and Henry H. Meester of Dike and one sister, Mrs. Trientje Pruis of Grundy Center and many other relatives.
