Rites Held For Jennie Syhlman

Jennie Dena Syhlman, 73, passed away at her home in Stout on Thursday, December 14.

Funeral services were held at the Reformed Church of Stout on Monday, December 18, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Don Ringnalda officiated.

Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sents sang "Rock of Ages" and "Blessed Assurance." They were accompanied by Mrs. Elaine Schnell, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Marvin Hook, Marvin Everts, Lester Everts, Jim Syhlman, Jack Syhlman and Steve Syhlman.

Harm Meyer, Harvey Eiklenborg and Henry Bolhuis were ushers. Mildred Wilkins and Lorna Venenga were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Jennie Dena Syhlman, daughter of Carl and Jessie Bruns Aswegan, was born March 20, 1916, in Lee Township, Franklin county. She grew up and was educated in the Stout area.

On March 29, 1939, Jennie was united in marriage to George Syhlman at the Salem Lutheran Parsonage in Grundy county.

Jennie was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. She was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout, where she taught Bible School and Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Dorcas Society.

Jennie worked at the Grundy Care Center from February, 1972, until her retirement in June of 1986.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1971; and by her parents.

Jennie is survived by her daughter, rs. Ray (Shirley) Wilson, of Grundy Center; her son Gary Syhlman, of Holiday, FL; a brother, Jerry Aswegan, Stout; a sister, Mrs. Menno (Katherine) VanHauen, Parkersburg; three grandsons, Kevin Wilson, Alex Syhlman and Chris Syhlman; one granddaughter-in-law Andrea Wilson; and one step-granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Macias.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
