Otto Haren, 95, Services Held

Otto Haren, 95, of Conrad, passed away Wednesday, October 11, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown where he had been a patient for the past week.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, at the Conrad United Methodist Church. Rev. David Crow officiated the 10:30 a.m. service.

The organist was Jackie Stevens and the soloist was LaDonna Sharp.

Casket bearers were Naaman Haren, Martin Johnson, Carroll Haren, Erwin Haren, Steve Metge and Denny Metge.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center with military rites conducted by the Conrad American Legion Post #681.

Otto B. Haren was born April 4, 1894, in Palermo Township, the son of Harm H. and Minnie C. Roos Haren. He attended country school and received his teaching certificate and taught for three years in country schools.

Otto served in the U.S. Army during WWI from 1918 to 1919.

On February 8, 1922, Otto was united in marriage to Ruby Johnson in Eldora. They farmed in Grundy and Hardin counties, and then resided in Conrad for the past 26 years.

Otto was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church, the Knights of Phythias Lodge, and the Grundy Center American Legion Post #349.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Otto is survived by his wife Ruby; one daughter, Marietta (Mrs. Merle) Metge, Conrad; two sisters, Anna Baughman, Grundy Center, and Mae Stevens, Minneapolis, MN; one brother Hubert Haren, of Grundy Center; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad was in charge of the arrangements.
