Rites Held For Hattie Friend
Mrs. Hattie Friend, 81, of Conrad, passed away Saturday, September 9, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown where she had been a patient for a few days.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Conrad United Methodist church in Conrad with Rev. David Crow officiating.
Jerry D. Miller was the soloist and Carol Altenhein was the organist.
Casket bearers were Cecil Wehrman, Dean Sharp, Wallace Kitzman, Mark Dvorak, Mike Studt and Jerry Gade.
Fran Grove and Marie Graham were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery.
Hattie M. Friend was born May 21, 1908, in rural Liscomb, the daughter of Charles and Mary Hickethier Schultz. She attended North Star County School and Conrad High School.
On December 7, 1935, Hattie was united in marriage to William L. Friend in Tama. They spent their married life in Conrad.
Hattie was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women, Conrad Cemetery Society, and the Conrad American Legion Auxiliary Unit #681.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronald Lee; one sister and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband, William; one son, Charles, of Conrad; and two sisters, Pearl and Frances Schultz, of Conrad.
The Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad was in charge of the arrangements.
