Rites Held For LaVine Koobs

LaVine Koobs, 84, of Waterloo, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at the Sunnyside Temple, Wesleyan Church in Waterloo, on Friday, June 23, at 1 p.m. Pastor Don Polston officiated.

Pastor D. Edward Anders sang "How Great Thou Art," and "The Old Rugged Cross." The accompanist was Mrs. Ruth Ann Polston, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Donald Hasbrouck, Claire Koobs, Roger Koobs, Phil Strehle, D. M. Watters and Tom Howe.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Grundy Center.

LaVine H. Koobs was born February 15, 1905, in Grundy Center. She was the daughter of Ernest William and Emma Beyer Hasbrouck. She grew up in Grundy Center and graduated from the high school in 1923.

LaVine worked for the Grundy Register until 1925. From 1925 to 1943 she lived in Gladbrook and then moved to Waterloo, where she worked as a waitress. She was manager of the Sunnyside County Club Dining Room for 15 years, retiring in 1968. She also managed the Armory Apartments in Waterloo for 24 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

LaVine is survived by one brother, Marlyn Hasbrouck, New Hartford; and by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
