Rites Held For Cornelius Freese

Cornelius Freese, 82, of rural Dike, passed away Saturday, June 17, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the United Methodist Church, Dike, with Dr. Gary Armstrong officiating.

Craig DeBerg sang "Amazing Grace," and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." The accompanist was Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Dennis Rindels, Terry Freese, Steven Freese, Craig Freese, Wade Freese, Todd Freese, Randall Freese, Russell Freese and Barry Block.

Ushers were Jack Heritage and John Mulder. Mrs. Edgar Abels and Mrs. Roy Groote were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Cornelius E. Freese, son of Nicholas and Dena Boike Freese, was born March 15, 1907, in Lincoln township, Grundy county. When he was six years old, his family moved to the farm where he was presently living. He attended country schools in Beaver and Fairfield townships, and high school in Dike.

On August 25, 1927, Cornelius was united in marriage to Gacina Johnson, in Cedar Falls. She passed away January 8, 1936.

On June 19, 1937, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Johnson in Dike. He farmed most of his life, retiring in 1976, but continuing to live on the farm.

Cornelius was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike for 56 years, joining the church in 1933.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Johnson, and Mrs. Grace Pruisner.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of rural Dike; one daughter, Ruth, Mrs. Eldon Rindels, Dike; three sons, Charles, of Holland, Harold of Traer, and Roger, of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Esther Lovell, of Dike; and one brother, Vernon, of Sacramento, CA.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
