Rites Held For George Gerloff
George Gerloff, of Clarksville, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, at the Clarksville Community Nursing Home at the age of 79.
Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on Friday, April 21, at 10 a.m. Pastor D. Ward Young, of the United Methodist Church officiated the service.
Casket bearers were Gerald, Garry, Lewis L., Lewis C., Dale, and Henry Lee Gerloff.
Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Grundy Center.
George L. Gerloff was born July 9, 1909, in Colfax township, Grundy county, the son of Lewis C. and Maria Flater Gerloff. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at Colfax #4. He worked as a farm hand around the Holland area.
On February 17, 1942, George was united in marriage to Leta Beenken. After their marriage, he worked as a farm hand around Grundy Center for about two years, and then farmed the family farm near Holland. In March of 1958, they moved to a farm north of Clarksville, where they farmed until his health would no longer permit it.
In February of 1984, he and his wife became residents of the Clarksville Community Nursing Home.
George was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Olen Thomas, in 1952; two sisters, Millie Abbas and Louise Fritzel.
He is survived by his wife, Leta; three sons, Gerald of Junction City, KS, Garry, of Callendar, and Lewis, of rural Clarksville; one sister, Mrs. Annie Hempen, of Northwood; one brother, Henry Gerloff, rural New Hartford; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Lewis, and Dale.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in the charge of the funeral arrangements.
