Services Held For Mike Diehl

Myron (Mike) Diehl, 80, of Grundy Center, passed away on Saturday, April 15, at the Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, TX.

Funeral services were held at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on Wednesday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiated.

Tom Harvey sang "What A Friend," and "How Great Thou Art." Taped musical selections were played for the prelude and postlude.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Myron (Mike) Diehl was born March 30, 1909, on the family farm in Melrose township, Grundy county. He was the son of Charles Elias and Ruth Winona Sherbon Diehl. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In 1927, he graduated from the Grundy Center High School. After high school, he farmed for awhile and was a grader-man for Grundy county in Melrose township.

Mike was united in marriage to Jeannette Slickers on April 22, 1936, at her parents' home in Grundy Center. During his life, he worked as an auto mechanic for the Wood's Garage in Eldora, the Roy Daniels Impl., Herman Ibling's Motor Company, Van Wechel Garage, and the Haren Oil Garage, all in Grundy Center. In 1973, he retired. He and his wife had wintered for 17 years in Rockport, TX.

Mike had a long and successful career as an auto mechanic, and when he was not working, he always enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Vernon, Harold, and Homer.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette, of Grundy Center; one daughter, Mrs. Darrel (Marilyn) Davis, Loveland, CO; one son, Darrell Diehl, Colorado Springs, CO; one grandson, Christopher Lee; and one brother, Melvin Diehl, of Redwood Falls, MN.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
