Rites Held For Jake Willems
Jake Willems, 78, of Ackley, passed away Saturday morning, March 25, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a short illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian church, rural Ackley, with Rev. Tim Diehl officiating.
Mrs. Virgil Heetland was the organist and Mrs. Merlin Bangasser and Mrs. Gordon Fritz were the vocalists.
Casket bearers were Gerald Willems, Alan Willems, Gary Willems, Shawn Willems, Harris Reiter, and Edwin Berends.
Ushers were Thomas Sherfield and Henry Akkerman. Mrs. Donald Arends and Mrs. Thomas Sherfield were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Jake Willems was born December 9, 1910, in Grundy County, the son of Gerhard and Antje Roskamp Willems. He attended rural school in the Ackley area.
On February 24, 1937, Jake was united in marriage to Frances Reiter, at her Steamboat Rock rural Home. They farmed near Cleves until Jake retired in 1972.
Jake was a faithful member of East Friesland Presbyterian Church, until becoming a charter member of Faith Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Hans, Hannes, Claus, Bohle, and George; and six sisters, Martha, Maggie, Hattie, Lucy, Annie and Sarah.
Jake is survived by his wife, Frances; three sons, James and his wife, Eloise, Ackley, Jerrell and his wife, Norma, Marshalltown, and Jay and his wife Arlie, of Anamosa; one daughter, Mrs. Greta Gabrielson, and her husband, Kent of Cedar Falls; and nine grandchildren.
The Brandt & Fritz Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
