Services Held For Pearl M. Aswegan
Funeral services for Pearl Aswegan were held at the First Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, on Monday, February 27, 1989, at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Glenn R. Dieken officiated.
Connie McBride sang "Amazing Grace" and "One Day At A Time." The accompanist was Mrs. Raymond Hinders, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Casket bearers were Gordon McDowell, Allen McDowell, Craig Diamond, Tony L. Diamond, David Harms, Donavon Ash and Paul Ash.
The ushers were Paul Slinker and Jack Bienfang. Mrs. Paul Slinker and Mrs. Ernest Blythe were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.
Pearl M. Aswegan was born on October 3, 1901, at Allensville, IL, and passed away at 3:30 a.m., Friday, February 24, 1989, at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. She attained the age of 87 years, four months and 21 days.
She was the daughter of John L. and Margaret Blackford Ash. Pearl and her family came to Grundy Center when she was five years old. She grew up in Grundy Center and attended school there.
On February 9, 1919, she was united in marriage to Fred Aswegan in Grundy Center. After their marriage, they farmed in Grundy county for 20 years and in 1939, they moved and made their home in Grundy Center.
Her husband, Fred, passed away on January 4, 1973.
After the death of her husband, she continued to make her home in Grundy Center until 1981, when she moved to Eldora and lived there until February 15, 1983, when she became a resident of the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a faithful mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and by 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Bertha) Diamond of Eldora and Mrs. Robert (Frieda) McBride of Conrad; four sons, Harold of Des Moines, Raymond of Ft. Madison, Earl of Sparks, NV, Fred, Jr. of Rolla, MO; seven sisters, Mrs. Susie Gideon and Mrs. Ellen Aswegan both of Grundy Center, Mrs. Hazel Pepperling of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Margaret Aswegan of Stout, Mrs. Bernice Bransted of Klemme, Mrs. Mary Swenson of Lake Mills and Mrs. June Jacobson of Mason City; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
