Rites Held For Louise Smith

Mrs. Louise Smith, Holland, passed away at 6:25 a.m., Sunday, January 29, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center. She attained the age of 99 years and 16 days.

Funeral services were held at the Holland Christian Reformed Church, Holland, on Wednesday, February 1, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Loren J. Kotman officiated.

Musical interludes of "Just As I Am," and "How Great Thou Art," were rendered by Mrs. Marvin Graves, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Donald Hanson, Russell Hanson, David Hanson, Paul Hook, James Albers, Michael Albers, and Leslie Hanson.

The ushers were Edward Schoolman and Virgil Getting. Grace Heronimus and Margaret Meyer were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Holland Cemetery, Holland.

Louise C. Smith was born on January 13, 1890, in Holland, the daughter of Cornelius and Elizabeth Lingelbach Dirks. She grew up in Holland and graduated from the eighth grade in Holland.

On March 10, 1909, Louise was united in marriage to James A. Smith at her parents' home in Holland. They lived their entire married life in Holland.

Louise served as a clerk in the post office in Holland from 1945 to 1960, when she retired. Her husband Jim passed away on August 11, 1937.

She was a long time member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church and a charter member of the Colfax Sunshine and Study Club.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one infant brother and one brother, Cornelius Dirks; and by one infant granddaughter, Glenda Jo Hanson.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jake (Mary) Schoneman, Mrs. John (Viola) Hanson, both of Holland, and Mrs. Benjamin (Hazel) Hook, of rural Wellsburg; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
