Rites Held For Frank Spicer

Frank E. Spicer, 69, died Saturday, December 24, at his home in Conrad.

Born Jan. 20, 1919, at Appleton City, MO, he was the son of Frank E. Sr. and Thurza Short Spicer. He graduated from Pittsburg High School, Pittsburg, KS, and attended Pittsburg Teacher's College.

On October 17, 1944, he married Ruth E. Wilkens in Pittsburg. He served in World War II with the U.S. Marines for 2 1/2 years on the USS Nevada. He moved to Conrad in 1945 and started his dry cleaning business in 1946, retiring in 1979 due to poor health.

He was a member of Conrad American Legion Post #581 and Roman Masonic Lodge #564 of Conrad.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons: Edward D., West Burlington, Ronald L., Marshalltown, and Jeffrey L., Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Edith Palmer, Delora Wiley and Bernice Carlson, all of Pittsburg, KS, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services were Tuesday, December 27, at the Conrad United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Crow officiating. Organist was Mrs. Brad Stevens and casket bearers were Roger Poe, Mike Poe, Dallas Poe, Dick Weatherman, Dean Ladehoff, and Ron Johnston. Flower bearers were Margaret Sloan and Marsha Sweet.

Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery with the flag folding ceremony by Conrad American Legion Post #681. Johnston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
