Dick Werkman Services Held

Dick Werkman, Jr., 76, of Holland passed away Friday, December 21, at Covenant Medical Center on Kimball in Waterloo. He had been a patient since the previous Sunday after suffering a sudden stroke.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 24, at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland at 2 p.m. Rev. Thomas J. Vos officiated.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Dick Werkman, Jr., the son of Dick and Winnie Smit Werkman Sr., was born July 21, 1914, in Holland. He grew up and attended school in Holland, and attended high school in Grundy Center.

On November 24, 1937, Dick was united in marriage to Anna Boelman. They farmed in Grundy county until 1979, when Dick retired and moved to Holland. Anna passed away in 1973.

Dick was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church. He loved fishing and playing cards. His family was very important to him.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Anna; one brother, Onno, two brothers in infancy; and one sister, Henrietta Harms.

Surviving him are two sons, Dick D. and Marvin (Red), both of Wellsburg; one daughter Marlys, Mrs. Paul Vogt, of Grundy Center; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Henry of Holland, Harm of Waterloo, George of Holland, and Jake of Cedar Falls; and two sisters, Grace VanDeest and Winnie Werkman, both of Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the professional arrangements.
