Rites Held For Gladys Thomas
Gladys Thomas, 86, passed away Friday, August 31, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad, where she had resided for the past three years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Beaman United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert Shreve officiating.
Casket bearers were Glenn Eggers, Jay Wilkinson, Scott Wilkinson, Dr. Michael Thomas, David Maxsom and Gary Naylor.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Beaman.
Gladys E. Thomas, daughter of Henry Edmond and Stella Newell Naylor, was born January 8, 1904, in Nash, Oklahoma, where she received her education.
On May 24, 1923, Gladys was united in marriage to Sterling A. Thomas in Goven, Saskatchewan, Canada. They moved to the Beaman area in 1943, where they farmed. They resided in Grundy Center for seven years before moving back to Beaman.
Sterling passed away in June of 1965. Gladys then lived in Arizona and Nevada for a few years.
She was a member of the Beaman United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and three brothers.
She is survived by a son, Wayne E. Thomas, Alton, IL; three daughters, Dorothy D. Beeson, Las Vegas, NV; Virginia, Mrs. Milton Chandler, Camarillo, CA; and Glenda, Mrs. Hollis Wilkinson of Reinbeck; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pearl Gibson, Grand Island, NE; Cinday, Mrs. Roger Hayes, Houston, MO; and Wilma Nelson, Victoria, Canada; and two brothers, Gilbert Naylor, Radcliffe; and Fred Naylor of Marshalltown.
The Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad was in charge of the arrangements.
