Oscar Kern Dies After Heart Attack
Oscar Simon Kern of Grundy Center died Monday morning following a heart attack at his home in Grundy Center.
He and his mother had just returned from Morrison, where they called at the cemetery. He was taken to the Grundy hospital shortly after he was stricken. The body was taken to the Ferree funeral home, where funeral arrangements were made. He was 51 years old, and was born Nov. 3, 1914, at Charles City.
Services will be Thursday afternoon, June 2, at the funeral home. The service will be conducted by Rev. Duane Heap, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Oscar Kern was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Kern. He resided in Grundy county most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II. In late years he was employed by the Waterloo Valve Spring Compressor Mfg. Co.
Oscar never married. He is survived by his mother and two sisters. The sisters are (Mavis) Mrs. Gordon Gilbert, and (Joyce) Mrs. Jerry Sodergren, Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his father in 1953 and one sister in 1931.
