Former County Board Member Dies Of Cancer

Frank Venenga, who served longer as a member of the Grundy County Board of Supervisors than any other, died in the Grundy hospital at five o'clock last Wednesday afternoon. He had been afflicted with cancer the past two years, and treatments he received from time to time helped to prolong his life. He was a patient in the Grundy hospital ten weeks before his death. Had he lived until July 6 of this year, he would have been 70 years old.

News of his death was heard with deep regret by many over the county and elsewhere. It was during his long years of service as a member of the Grundy county board of supervisors that his high value as a public service and as a friend became well known. He served 19 years as a member of the board of supervisors, representing Colfax and Lincoln townships. He was first elected in 1944 for a three-year term and served for a period of one term. He was retired at the close of his first term but returned again three years later and continued his service to January of this year, when he resigned because of his health. He was an honest and a dependable public servant and always tried to live up to his promises.

Resided in County Nearly All Of His Life
Frank Venenga resided in Grundy county nearly all of his life. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Franz Venenga. He came to Grundy county with his parents when he was a small boy. The family established a home on a Colfax township farm where Frank grew up. On July 10, 1918, Frank Venenga and Anna Dirks were married by Rev. J. E. Drake in the Colfax Presbyterian church. They farmed for a time in Colfax township, and 31 years ago they purchased a farm in Lincoln township where they resided continually.

Surviving are the wife and three sons. The sons are Marvin, who with his wife resides on the home farm; Elgin, Grundy Center, and Lester, Reinbeck. There are six surviving grandchildren; one brother, Otto Venenga, who resides in Worthington, Minn., 3 sisters, Mrs. Kate Jaspers, Wellsburg; Mrs. Tillie Bettenga, Holland; Mrs. Tom Dreesman, Holland. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Harm.

Funeral Services Saturday
The body was taken from the hospital to the Engelkes Funeral Home where arrangements were made. Services were held in the Bethany Presbyterian Church Saturday. Rev. A. J. Straatmeyer officiated at the service. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. There was a large attendance at the church service.

Nephews Were Casketbearers
Frank Venenga's nephews were casketbearers. They were Edwin and Glenn Dreesman, Roy and Robert Venenga, Paul Bettenga and Jake Jaspers.

Members of the Grundy county board and courthouse officials were present at the service.

Among others from a distance who attended the services were Rev. and Mrs. Evert Dirks and three sons from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
