John Nelson Dies At Nursing Home

John Nelson, who had resided in Grundy county 65 years, died Saturday evening in the Countryside Nursing Home in Grundy Center. He had been a resident at the home for three years. He would have been 85 years old had he lived until May 2nd. He had been in failing health for some time.

The body was taken to the Ferree Funeral Home where funeral arrangements were made. Services were held at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. Brockus from Reinbeck. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Was Born In Sweden
Mr. Nelson was born in Sweden. He came to this country as a young man and got his start in this country by working on a farm. He later purchased a farm in Washington township, Grundy county, and resided there continually for 54 years. He retired in 1955 and made his home in Grundy Center.

Mr. Nelson was twice married. His first wife died February 26, 1916. Later he married Sadie Thulm, who died March 24, 1918.

Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Edna Rathman, from Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, three brothers, and two infant daughters.

Casketbearers at the service were Raymond Hauschildt, James Creswell, Glenn Whitlock, George Dew, Theo. Meinert and Foster Owen. The flower committee were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Martens and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Koch.
