Mrs. Merle Poe, 70, Lifelong Resident, Dies At Hospital
Mrs. Merle Poe, 70, passed away Wednesday, at the Evangelical hospital in Marshalltown where she had been a patient with a heart condition for 10 days.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Conrad Methodist church, with Rev. R. O. Grote officiating. Burial was in the Conrad cemetery.
Special music for the service was provided by soloist Russell Kruse and organist Mrs. Laverne Ferneau.
Casket bearers were Clinton Bunn, Dr. J. L. Hesselhuus, James Jebousek, Otto Haren, Burl Bone and A. B. Cooper.
Flower attendants were Clinton Bunn, Mrs. Jennibelle Clay and Mrs. Robert Zern.
She was born March 26, 1895, near Conrad, a daughter of Frank and Orilla Arney Miller, and had lived her entire life in the Conrad and Liscomb communities. She was married to Harry Poe on February 24, 1915 at Marshalltown, and they lived their married life in Grundy county. Mr. Poe died in 1957.
Mrs. Poe was a member of the Methodist church of Conrad and the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the church. She was a loving mother, a kind friend and a good neighbor and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include one son, Cleo, of Conrad and five grandsons. She was preceded in death, also by a daughter Reba, one brother, Charlie Miller and a sister Nellie Brindle.
