Mrs. Mary Lynch, Oldest Co. Person Died At N. Home

Mrs. Mary Lynch, oldest person residing in Grundy county, died last Thursday at the Countryside Nursing Home in Grundy Center where she had stayed since September 1964. Had she lived until Dec. 14. she would have been 99 years old. Death was due to advanced age.

Resided in Grundy County 96 Years
Mrs. Lynch spent 96 years of her long lifetime in Grundy county. She came with her parents from Somerset county, Pennsylvania, when she was three years old. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Kinsinger, located on a farm in Palermo township, southwest of Grundy Center, and she grew up there.

In 1885 she became a member of St. Paul's Reformed church, a little country church which once stood southwest of Grundy Center.

She was married to Jeff Lynch March 3, 1886, at Beaman. They started married life on a farm in Marshall county. After two years they moved to Clay township, Grundy county, and in 1894 to the farm in Palermo township which was their home for 49 years. They moved to Grundy Center in 1944 and resided here during the remainder of their lives. Mr. Lynch died in 1950 at the age of 85.

Mrs. Lynch had 127 descendants, a number equaled by few families in the county. Among her descendants are 10 children, 34 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lynch was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Ross. She is survived by six sons, Earl of Garwin, Lewis of Coggon, Ralph of Marshalltown, Bert, Harry and Myron of Grundy Center; four daughters, Mrs. Savannah Pierce, Mrs. Nora Jontz, Mrs. Fred (Orpha) Smith, Mrs. Lee (Myrna) Thoren, all of Grundy Center.

Services Monday
Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church in Grundy Center, Monday afternoon following a prayer service at the Ferree Funeral Home. The service was conducted by Rev. A. J. Straatmeyer. Burial was by the side of the husband in the Grundy Center cemetery.
