Sterling Thomas, Former Implement Dealer Here, Dies

Sterling Thomas, 62, former Grundy Center farm implement dealer, died Saturday morning at his summer home near Pine River, Minn.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Beaman Methodist church, with burial in Oakland cemetery.

He was born June 29, 1902 in Marshalltown, the son of Clayton and Mabel Thomas, and was reared and educated in Marshalltown and Canada.

The deceased lived in Florida then returned to Iowa where he operated the Thomas Implement Company store in Grundy Center and also did some farming. He retired in 1956.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Maylor on May 26, 1923, in Govan, Saskatchewan, Canada.

He was a member of the Beaman Methodist Church, Emerald Lodge No. 334 AF&AM of Grundy Center, and the American Jersey Cattle Club.

Survivors include his widow, four children, Wayne Thomas of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. James (Dorothy) Essen of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Harold (Virginia) Eggers of Beaman, and Mrs. Hollis (Glenda) Wilkinson, also of Las Vegas, and 13 grandchildren.

Also five brothers and sisters: Mrs. Florence Billerbeck of Lincoln, Mrs. Donald Earl of Boston, Mass., Donald Thomas of Melvin Village, New Hamp.; Clayton Thomas Jr. and Mrs. Ronald Kaufmann, both of Beaman.
