Treasurer Son Dies Of Lengthy Illness

Craig Allen Bettenga, 12 year old son of County Treasurer and Mrs. Paul Bettenga, died in the University hospital in Iowa City Sunday evening. He had been a patient in the hospital for eight days. Craig had been afflicted with diabetes since his birth.

The body was brought to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center where a short service was held at one o'clock Wednesday and at 1:30 o'clock there was a service in the Christian Reformed church at Holland. Rev. Clyde Van Winkle officiated at the service. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Craig Bettenga was born in the Grundy hospital April 1st, 1953. The family lived for a short time in Holland and then on a farm home in Colfax township. Craig attended the Grundy Center Community school and was in the 5th grade.

The many friends of the Bettenga family extend their sympathy.

Surviving are the parents, a brother Jay, 9, and a sister Lisa, 4 months. Other surviving relatives are the paternal grandmother, Mrs. John Bettenga, Holland, and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Venenga, Grundy Center. A sister, Beth Ann Bettenga, died in August 1952.
