Obituary Of Malachi Flynn

Malachi Flynn was born near Templemore, Tipperary county, Ireland, May, 1823. He left Ireland for America when he was twenty-eight years old and landed in Mobile, Ala. on the 11th of March, 1851. He worked on some of the first railroads built in Ohio, Kentucky and eastern states. In 1864 he was united in marriage to Mary Shelley in Cedar Falls, where Mr. Flynn worked at the building of the Illinois Central railroad. About 1870 they moved onto their farm seven miles south of Cedar Falls, where they lived until 1885, when they moved onto the farm at Grant Center. This has since been their home and here the family was raised. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Flynn. They are Katherine, Mary, Margaret, now Mrs. J. H. Bonn; and John. Mrs. Flynn died in 1906.
