Grandma Pepperman Died Tuesday
Was 84 Years Old and Resident of Grundy 44 Years
Grandma Pepperman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dave Ried in this city Tuesday forenoon. She was sick with pneumonia a little more than a week. The end came very peacefully. She slept nearly all of the time during the last two days of her sickness.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. Keeler are being held at the Methodist church this afternoon. Interment will be made in the cemetery here by the side of her husband.
Mrs. Pepperman was 84 years old ten days before her death. She had been a continuous resident of this county for forty-four years. She was born in Lycoming county, Penn. in the year 1828 and she was married there. In 1867 the family removed to Madison, Wis. where they resided a year. In 1868 they came to Grundy county and moved on a farm southeast of this city. They resided there until about 20 years ago when they moved to town. Mrs. Pepperman's husband died in 1891. Since then she lived alone a good share of the time, when she was not staying with one of her children.
Mrs. Pepperman was the mother of six children, three sons and three daughters. Five of the children are living. They are J. W., Mrs. Joe King of this city, C. A. of Humboldt, Mrs. Wm. Ries of Gilmore City, and Mrs. Dave Ried of Grundy Center.
Out of town relatives present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Pepperman from Humboldt, Wm. Ries and wife and Wesley Carlson from Gilmore City.

Mrs. Rebecca Pepperman
Mrs. Rebecca Pepperman was born in Lycoming county, Penn., Feb. 10, 1828 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. W. Reid of this place Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, 1912, at the age of 84 years and 10 days. She was the eldest of twelve children, ten girls and two boys.
She was married to Z. B. Pepperman in Lycoming county, Penn., March 30, 1852. This union was blest with six children, one dying at the age of four years and five living, J. W. Pepperman of Grundy Center, Mary Emma King, Grundy Center; Chas. A. Pepperman, Humboldt, Ia.; Reginah A. Reis, Gilmore City, Ia.; and Sarah E. Reid, Grundy Center.
In 1867 the family moved to Wisconsin and in the fall of 1868 to Iowa. The home circle was broken when the father was removed Feb. 4, 1887[sic]. Mrs. Pepperman was converted at an early age and united with the Methodist church of which organization she remained a member till her death. She leaves to mourn her departure two sons and three daughters, two brothers and three sisters and other relatives besides a wide circle of friends.
The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, a short service being held at the house at 1:30 and service at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock. The services were conducted by the Rev. W. C. Keeler, her pastor. Music was furnished by a quartette. Burial was made in the Grundy Center cemetery.
