Enno Barkhoff, Father 10 Children, Dies at Hospital
Enno Barkhoff, father of ten children, died at the hospital at Iowa city shortly after noon on Thursday. The body was brought to the home near Dike Thursday night.
Mr. Barkhoff was afflicted with inflammation of the liver. He felt the effects of the trouble for the first time two months ago. He was taken to his bed a week ago Saturday and two days later was taken to the hospital.
Funeral services were held at the church at Stout Sunday afternoon. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Obituary
Enno H. Barkhoff, son of Fred and Christina Barkhoff, was born on August 17, 1884, in Ostfriesland, Germany. He passed away on August 31, 1933, at Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 49 years and 14 days. Mr. Barkhoff's health was failing but was able to be about until Sunday, when he took to his bed. The cause of his death was inflammation of the liver.When just a boy he came to America with his parents and they settled in Grundy county where he grew to manhood.
On September 8, 1909, he was married to Anna Lupkes and this union was blessed with 10 children, all of whom survive: Christina, Fred, Louis, Helen, Archie, Elsie, Bennie, Anna, Paul, and George.
He is survived by 4 sisters and a great number of other relatives.
Relatives from a distance here at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lupkes and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lupkes, Wheaton, Minn.; Eilt Lupkes and Mrs. Lupkes' father, and O. Lupkes, Wheaton, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harm Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. P. Boots, Rushmore, and several relatives from Franklin county.
