Wife Unable To Call for Help When Husband Dies

Jim Mills died suddenly from heart failure in his bed some time during Sunday night. His wife, who has been an invalid for several years and who was in bed with him, discovered about one o'clock Monday morning that he was dead. She was unable to leave her bed to call for help. About nine o'clock the next morning Ed Slifer and Duffy Albright stopped at the house to ask Mills to go fishing with them. They rapped on the door and the wife asked them to come in, that Jim was dead by her side in bed. Mills had been in apparently good health and he was up town the day before.

Jim Mills was a native of Grundy county and one of its earliest residents. He was born near Beaman 73 years ago four months and ten days preceding his death. He lived for a time in Steamboat Rock after leaving Beaman and came to Grundy Center 40 years ago. He was a house mover. He came from a family of five children. All of the others preceded him in death. He was married to Clara Lewis July 14, 1913.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. R. B. Fisher were held at the home Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
