S. B. Elliott, Early Resident Of County Dead

Alexander (Sandy) B. Elliott, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed. Smith, at Hudson last Thursday forenoon. His health had been gradually failing during the past year, but he was not taken to his bed until a week before his death.

The remains were brought to the Coffman funeral home Thursday afternoon where funeral services were held Saturday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. A. G. Annette, pastor of the Baptist church. Oliver Smith from Waterloo gave a prayer. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Mr. Elliott was one of the early residents of Grundy county, coming here sixty-eight years ago. He was born in Canada and came from that country to Illinois where he remained a short time before coming to Grundy county. He came to Grundy county by team. He was 85 years old on the 24th of last August. He was married Jan. 1, 1875, to Josephine Bogart.

Shortly after coming here Mr. Elliott bought a farm in Lincoln township which he owned at the time of his death. His wife died 35 years ago. In late years he has been spending the summer season at the farm home where the Jack C. Smith family are living and during the winters he resided with the family of Ed Smith at Hudson.

Surviving relatives are six daughters and one son. The son, Alton E. Elliott, resides at Aplington. The daughters are Mrs. Charles Wright from Regina, Canada; Mrs. B. F. Whitney, Stout; Mrs. Arthur Reisinger, Waterloo; Mrs. Ed Smith, Hudson; Mrs. Jack Smith, Lincoln township, and Mrs. F. S. Wells of Chico, California. Guy B. Elliott, a son, died Feb. 13, 1917. There are 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Among the out of the county relatives and friends who were here at the funeral were Jerry Elliott and two daughters, Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. John Melsner and Harry Melsner, Waterloo, the Ed Smith family from Hudson, Sam Tatters and James Patterson from Hudson.
