Peter Westergaard Funeral Services at Reinbeck Friday
Funeral services for Peter Westergaard were held at Reinbeck Friday afternoon.
Mr. Westergaard died on Wednesday from heart trouble. He had been receiving treatment at Iowa City for his ailment for four months but it brought no relief. He had been a resident of Reinbeck for forty years.
Peter Westergaard was born in Ringstorp, Schleswig, July 5, 1867, and was thus in his sixty-sixth year at death. He came to this country as a young man in 1891 and for two years operated a cooper's shop at Clinton, Iowa. He then came to Reinbeck where he was employed for a time by A. M. Whaylen as repair man in his buggy and implement business.
There followed a number of years in which he worked in the carpenter trade in this section and then purchased a wagon shop which he operated until twelve years ago he sold the business to Peter Bigum. For seven years he lived in California, ranching for two years and then employed by a piano company. Five years ago he returned to Reinbeck and made his home since then with his brother.
Mr. Westergaard had never married and he is survived by his brother, Hans Westergaard, and family of Reinbeck, and one sister, Mrs. Elisa Kruse, living in Denmark. Another sister died in California a few years ago.
