Obituary William Flanders

William Flanders was born in Mahaska county near Oskaloosa February 28, 1855, and died at Collyer, Kansas, Nov. 1, 1932, at the age of 77 years and 8 months.

His boyhood days were spent near Oskaloosa. From there at the age of 20 he came to the Beaman neighborhood. In 1884 he purchased a farm one mile east of Beaman where he made his home until 1925. In 1900 he acquired large interests in western Kansas where he spent much of his time in recent years.

He was married to Marcella A. Wilson, May 15, 1878, near Oskaloosa. She passed away May 10, 1889.

He was again married to Thresa Schrafel Sept. 5, 1891, at Grundy Center. She passed away at their home near Beaman Sept. 5, 1924. One daughter, Mrs. Josie Schrafel, died in December, 1916.

He is survived by four children: Mrs. Maude Courtney, Collyer, Kan.; Mrs. Matilda Glass, Beaman; Mrs. Nellie Bonk, Sheldon, Iowa; Edwin Flanders, Bosman River, Manitoba, Canada. These together with twenty-one grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Martha Mattox, Beacon, Iowa, mourn his passing.

The funeral service was held in the Methodist church at Beaman in charge of the Rev. H. W. Artman. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
