Jake Kluver Dies Friday From Cancer
Jake Kluver died at his home in Grundy Center Friday morning from cancer. Funeral services were held at the German Presbyterian church Monday afternoon. The local pastor, Rev. K. J. Stratemeier, preached both in the English and in the German language. Mrs. Wm. Kruse and Mrs. H. Dirks Jr. sang. There was a large attendance at the service. Burial was made in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Obituary
Jacob Kluver was born July 10, 1855, in Weener, Ostfriesland, Germany. In 1869 at the age of fourteen he went to sea, sailing the ocean until 1884. He then served a Bremen ship company (the North German Lloyd) for 28 years as dock foreman for this company in New York City.In 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Windeknecht in New York, who preceded him in death in July, 1923. He came to Grundy Center in 1912 and made this his home until the time of his death. He was sick about a year, suffering from cancer and dropsy.
He leaves to mourn his departure one sister, Mrs. Matie Temple of Brainerd, Minnesota, and one brother, Ed. Kluver of this city, and many other relatives and friends.
