Former Grundy Resident Died In Tarkio, Missouri

Word was received here Friday announcing the death of Hans Harder at Tarkio, Mo. The message came here to Mrs. John Souers, a sister. Mrs. Souers left for Missouri shortly after the message was received and arranged to have the body sent to Grundy Center and it arrived here Monday night.

Obituary
(By Rev. R. B. Fisher)

Hans Harder was born in Germany December 7th, 1853. He died at Tarkio, Mo., Dec. 11, 1931, at the ripe old age of 78 years and 4 days.

Mr. Harder was one of seven children. Two sisters and one brother passed away in infancy, while one brother passed beyond about 12 years ago.

Only two of the family remain. They are Mrs. Charles Pepperman of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. John Souers of Grundy Center, Iowa.

Mr. Harder was a member of the Lutheran church. He is reported to have been a good man. He never was married. He lived on a farm about forty years ago near Grundy Center. Since that time he had lived at a number of different places. He passed the last sixteen years of his life at or near Tarkio, Missouri. A number of his old time friends are gathered together to show him respect and assist in a Christian burial. This is the least we can do and at such times it is the most we can do.

The body was brought to the Engelkes Burial Home and there the funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. B. Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. The burial was at the Grundy Center cemetery. The sister, Mrs. Pepperman, could not come to the funeral services.

Thus it is that another leaf has fallen from the great human tree. The last leaves must all finally fall. "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, but the spirit shall return to God who gave it."
