Obituary of Richard Kuper

After an illness of only a few days, Richard Kuper died July 29, 1931 in the Ellsworth hospital at Iowa Falls, at the age of 42 years, 9 months and 23 days. The immediate cause of his death was a ruptured appendix, and although medical and surgical aid was given, it was of no avail. He was born October 6, 1888 in Heesenland, Kreis Weener, Eastfriesland, Germany.

In 1909 he was united in marriage to Anna Kuper. To this union seven children were born, four girls and three boys. In 1910 he departed alone for America, and after a few years his wife and children followed. The family lived first near Cleves and later on various farms in the vicinity of Ackley. On July 19, 1919 he had the misfortune of losing his wife, who died from the result of burns, caused by an explosion.

He is survived by his orphan children, Sina, John, Jennie, Harm, Minnie, Richard Jr. and Anna, and maybe his aged parents in Germany. He had no near relatives here, except one cousin, Richard Menken of Greene, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the home, led by Rev. Henry Johnson. Interment was made in the cemetery of Westfriesland Presbyterian church.
