John Lynch, Grundy Pioneer, Died Wednesday

Suffered Paralytic Stroke Jan. 19 Of Last Year; Did Not Regain Health

Was Resident Of This County For 60 Years

Expected That Funeral Will Be Saturday Forenoon at the Sam Frakes Home

John Lynch, who for sixty years was a resident of Grundy county, died yesterday afternoon at his home in the southeast part of Grundy Center following an illness that began a year ago last January. Always in rugged health, he was stricken with paralysis a year ago the 19th of last January. He partly recovered from the effects of the stroke but his health showed signs of gradually failing from the date that he was stricken and he continued to get weaker until the end came.

Mr. Lynch was 84 years old the 26th day of last April. He was born in Ireland in the county of Cork. His father and two brothers first came to this country and located near Freeport, Ill., to establish a home. The following year they sent for the mother and the son John. The family remained in Illinois until 1871, when they came to Grundy county. They bought the farm two miles southeast of Grundy Center now operated by Sam Frakes. The son John was married the following year. He bought the farm on which the Frank Kopsa family are now living and which he owned up to the time of his death. Mr. Lynch and his wife lived there until they came to Grundy Center to enjoy their advanced years in retirement eighteen years ago.

Through hard work, good management and saving habits Mr. Lynch's long and active life was rewarded with a substantial estate and the esteem and confidence of his friends.

Surviving relatives are the wife and the son, Bert. Mr. and Mrs. Lynch had but two children. The daughter died when she was 22 months old.

The funeral will be Friday morning at 9'clock at the Catholic church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Father Boyle and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery in Grundy Center.
