Death of Mrs. Joe Foster

Mrs. Joseph Foster was born Jan. 27, 1865, near Union, Hardin county, Iowa. When only a young child she lost her mother, after which she made her home with the Wm. Vinton family until her marriage July 4, 1882, to Joseph A. Foster of Whitten. Mr. Foster preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1930. To this union two sons were born. The first part of their married life was spent in Whitten, later moving on a farm, where they lived until retiring about 12 years ago. Mrs. Foster was a charter member of the Christian church at Whitten. During the past year she has been in poor health, growing gradually worse and in spite of medical skill and tender care she passed away Wednesday morning, April 14, 1931, at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 17 days.

She is survived by two sons, Bert of Iowa Falls and Frank of Marshalltown, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, one brother, Chas. Smith of Whitten, and one sister, Mrs. Etta Clough of Ladysmith, Wis., and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held in the Whitten Christian church. Rev. F. C. Griewe, assisted by Rev. E. E. Briggs, officiated. Burial was in the Benson cemetery.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Ed. Bamer of Oskaloosa; William Smith and sister of Waterloo; Myo Mendenhall and wife and Mrs. Fannie Landes of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Codner and Mrs. Alva Codner of Fort Dodge; Worden sisters and Wallace Worden, Vern Hammer and wife, Warren Hammer and wife of Union, John Rails and wife and Albert Arnold and wife of Eldora; Aug. Siefken of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Mel Stewart and Lyda Marqusi and mother of Conrad.
