Man Of Eighty Dies Of Heart Failure

Hinderk Cordes Dies Suddenly at Dumont

Went There to See His Daughter and Died in Restaurant

Hinderk Cordes an old settler of Grundy county died very suddenly of heart failure in a restaurant at Dumont last Friday morning. He in company with his son, Reemt, went to Dumont to visit Mr. Cordes' daughter. The old gentleman was in his usual good health when the two left home Friday morning. Leaving the train at Dumont Mr. Cordes and son went to a restaurant to buy cigars and candy. As the son was lighting his cigar, his father who was standing back of him suddenly keeled over and fell to the floor. He was dead before a doctor could reach him. His remains were taken to the undertaking rooms in Dumont and they were sent back to Stout on the next train from which they were taken to the home.

Funeral services were held at the Voss church in Beaver township Tuesday and there was an unusually large attendance.

Mr. Cordes was in his 81st year. Though he was far advanced in years he was continually in good health and relatives and neighbors were shocked when they learned of his sudden death.

The deceased was born in Eastfriesland, Germany. With his large family he came to this country thirty-two years ago. For many years the family resided on the home place a mile south of Fern. This place was sold a few years ago since which time Mr. Cordes lived on a farm two miles west of Stout.

An aged wife and nine children survive Mr. Cordes. The children are Mrs. R. Claassen, who lives in Minnesota, Mrs. Antje, who resides at Dumont, Mrs. Harm Frerichs, of Rushmore, Mrs. August Hundertmark, of Conrad, Eilt, Reemt, Ludwig, Henry and Mrs. Frank Bergman.
