Mary A. Burns, oldest daughter of David and Permielia Mills, was born at Weedsport, Cayuga county, New York, September 9, 1841. With her parents, she removed to Winnebago, Winnebago county, Illinois, in the spring of 1862, where they settled on a farm and where she was united in marriage to Dr. J. D. Burns, on March 2nd, 1870. Making their home in Lincoln, Nebr., for two years. Removing to Rockford, Ill., where they resided until March, 1878, when they removed to Grundy Center, Iowa, where they have resided for thirty-six years.

Four children were born to the union, two of whom survive, viz., Mrs. Geo. E. Morphy, Salida, Colo., and Mrs. W. J. Scott, of Grundy Center, Iowa. Died at her home June 4, 1914. Aged 72 years, 8 months, 25 days.
