Alyce Flater, 90, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Tuesday - May 29, 2007, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Alyce was born April 3, 1917, near Fern, Iowa, the daughter of Heiko and Tena (Grimmius) DeLange. She lived in Fairfield Township and for 9 months lived in Portage, MI. She returned to the home place in Grundy County. She attended Lincoln Township Country School #8 thru the 8th grade. On January 12, 1937 she was united in marriage to Albert Flater at the Salem Lutheran Church parsonage in Grundy County, Iowa. The couple farmed near Holland and Dike for 12 years in 1948 they moved into Grundy Center where she was employed by the Grundy County Hospital for 15 years. She then went to work as a cook for the Grundy Center School System for 15 years, 11 of which were as a Supervisor. She then returned to the Hospital for another 10 years and retired in 1981. She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, Martha Circle, Member of Bethany Presbyterian Women's Association for almost 60 years, she served as a Deacon for 3 years and was the first woman at Bethany to help serve communion. Alyce loved baking, crocheting, crafts, playing cards, traveling and visiting with her family and friends.
She is survived by her 2 daughters: Thelma "T.J." and her husband LaVerne Clingerman of Valley Mills, Texas, and Betty Venenga of Grundy Center, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Marcia Brown, Melinda Clingerman, Monte (Diane) Clingerman, Murry Clingerman, Erin (Dave) Sandman, Toni Venenga (Marcus) Haynes, and Cari Venenga; 4 great-grandchildren: Quinton Clingerman, Bailey and Bret Sandman and Spencer Haynes; 1 sister: Lillian Muller of Grundy Center, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law: Lena DeLange of Grundy Center, Iowa, Marilyn DeLange of Grundy Center, Iowa and Marjorie DeLange of Ankeny, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Albert; 3 brothers: Tony, Gus and John DeLange; 2 sisters: Gertie Schmidt and Grace Schipper.
