Florence Rickert, age 90, died Saturday, July 15, 2006 at the Eagle Point Nursing & Rehab Center in Clinton, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, July 20 at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Rev. Joel Love will be officiating. Burial will follow at Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday with family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck.

Florence M. Rickert was born on February 28, 1916 in Lincoln, IA, daughter of Emil and Johanna (Petersen) Schmidt. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1933. Florence was united in marriage to Carl L. Rickert on August 13, 1933 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, IA. They resided in Reinbeck for several years before entering the restaurant & resort business in Waterloo, Gladbrook and Minnesota. They also farmed near Rochester, MN. In later years, Florence and her grandson operated the Tastee-Freez in Clinton, IA. Florence also enjoyed her winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Florence was a member of the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. From 1965-1966, she served as Minnesota?s Grand Electa, and as Worthy Grand Matron from 1976-1977.

Surviving relatives include her daughter, Patricia (Dean) Ernst of Clinton, IA; one sister, Donna (Robert) Matheson of Jefferson, IA; 3 sister-in-laws, Odessa Schmidt of Austin, MN, Lucy Schmidt of Mason City, IA, and Faye Paulsen of Reinbeck; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 step-great-grandchild, 1 step-great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl; 4 brothers, Clarence, Vertus, Leon and Wayne Schmidt and 2 sister-in-laws.
