Verna Stackhouse, age 88, died Monday, July 24, 2006 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA.

Verna Rominger was born on June 17, 1918 in Orange County, Indiana, daughter of Harry and Maud (Abel) Rominger. Verna attended and graduated from country school near French Lick, Indiana. Verna married Hugh Stackhouse on November 15, 1933. Together they lived in Hampton and Geneva, IA. Verna moved to the Mason City/Clear Lake, IA area around 1965. She owned and operated the Golden Goose Restaurant there for many years. After her retirement, Verna moved to Sun City, Arizona. When her health began to fail, Verna decided to move to the Westview Estates in Reinbeck, to be closer to family.

Verna loved to dance, and had also been involved in dancing competitions. She also enjoyed traveling, making many trips to places such as Spain and England. Verna also enjoyed driving her pontoon boat around Clear Lake, which she did every Sunday afternoon with family and friends.

Surviving relatives include two sons and their wives, Joe (Evelyn) Stackhouse of Nashville, TN, Jack (Fran) Stackhouse of Cedar Falls, IA; one daughter and her husband, Carolyn (George) Ehlers of Reinbeck, IA; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Jr. (Pauline) Rominger, Lester Rominger all of West Baden, IN, Jerry Rominger of French Lick, IN; and two sisters, Patty Ricke and Joan Hoel both of Phoenix, AZ.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Pauline Rominger and one grandson, Douglas Stackhouse.
