Arthur W. Koht, 74, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Hospice of Arizona, in Phoenix, Arizona. Memorial services will be 1:30 P.M., Friday, August 12, 2005, at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck, with full military rites provided by Action Post #242 of the American Legion. A memorial fund has been established.
Arthur was born January 27, 1931, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Elliot F. and Iva A. (Green) Koht. Arthur received his education in Reinbeck and graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1948. On December 28, 1950, Arthur enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on October 27, 1954. On November 26, 1955, Arthur was united in marriage to Jean Ann Johnson at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. After their marriage, they made their home in Reinbeck and Arthur was the owner of Koht Insurance for many years. Arthur had also been an employee of the Reinbeck School system, working as a bus driver, and served as a past secretary of the Reinbeck School Board. From 1993 to 1997, Arthur worked in the Midwest in Motel Management. From 1997 to the present, Arthur and Jean made their home in Phoenix, Arizona. Arthur had been a member of Action Post #242 of the American Legion in Reinbeck, and also Post #105 of the American Legion in Phoenix, Arizona. He had been a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, the 40 & 8 Club, the Grundy County Election Board, Grundy County Veteran?s Affairs, the Reinbeck School Board, and the American Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife Jean Koht of Phoenix, Arizona; three sons Craig Koht and his wife Karen of Barrington, Illinois; David Koht and his wife Kathy of York, Pennsylvania; Doug Koht and Renee Shaffer of Reinbeck, Iowa; and one daughter Debbie (Koht) and her husband Robert Good of Phoenix, Arizona; nine grandchildren Shane and Brady Koht, Josh and Katie Koht, Chet and Brittney Shaffer, and Nicole, Kayla, and Morgan Good; and one brother Rodney Koht of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents E.F. and Iva Koht.
